Did you know that as a teacher working in a Waterford school you are entitled to a free Library card at the Waterford Public Library? Stop by the library with your driver’s license and your work ID to get your free card.
Preschool Outreach
The following free services are available to Waterford preschool programs:
--Library Storytime Visits
Periodic visits with 20-30 minutes of stories, songs and fingerplays.
--Library Visit/Field Trip
Classes may visit the Library for a storytime session. Most groups visit in the spring.
--Resource Materials
Resource materials for preschool programs are available to borrow. The books cover preschool crafts, games, songs, learning activities, literacy activities and more. These may be borrowed for up to a month at a time.
--Bulk Loan Materials
Groups of 25 books are loaned to area preschools for a month at a time. Some groups allow the children to read the books during free or play time; others use them as part of their regular classroom learning activities. The collection can be a hodgepodge chosen by the Youth Services Librarian or specific topics suggested by the preschool teachers. The Youth Services Librarian will deliver and pick up bulk loan collections. All books will be checked out on a preschool staff member’s card who assumes responsibility for any damage that may occur.
School Aged Children
-- Library/Librarian Visits for Children in Waterford Schools
Spring Library Visits by classes help kids hear about upcoming summer programs, find out how they can get their own Library card and discover the many resources the public library has to offer. Call to schedule a visit in May or June.
The Youth Services Librarian would also be happy to schedule a visit to your school classroom to share a fun presentation about the Waterford Public Library. Call to schedule a visit.
-- Assignment Alert
Please help us to best serve the children in your class by notifying the Library when a major assignment is given that will require Library research or borrowing Library materials. Information on the topic(s) and type of assignment, grade, number of students, basic requirements and date due would be very helpful. Information may be shared with the Waterford Public Library by phone (237-0891), fax (237-2568) or contact us via e-mail.
