Hornby Huzzah

Monday, October 5th, 2009

Fans of the author Nick Hornby have dual reasons to be cheerful at the moment, with the release of his latest novel, “Juliet Naked” AND an acclaimed new film, “An Education”, for which Nick wrote the screenplay.  His publisher Penguin Books has more info on both here. And the New York Times had an article on the film.

Helping to Locate Your Next Great Read

Wednesday, September 2nd, 2009

Is one of the most enjoyable and satisfying parts of being a librarian. But if you can’t make it in, or would rather choose on your own, may we suggest a very useful tool.  It’s our NextReads service, which consists of an email newsletter full of book suggestions in a wide variety of genres and subjects.  Whether you’re an armchair traveler, mystery buff or love a spine tingling thriller, there’s a newsletter that’s tailored to you. The newsletters are linked to our catalog, so you can jump over and place a request. In no time, you will have your Next Great Read! Think of it perhaps as a Netflix queue for books.  Except you don’t have to bother with those pesky red envelopes.

Changes to Library’s Reserve Policy

Wednesday, August 6th, 2008

We recently implemented a small but significant change to our reserve policy for new books. Patrons from any library in the SALS/MVLS system can now place reserves for our new books. The catch is they will have to come to Waterford to pick them up. We won’t ship out new materials via Interlibrary Loan.  So if you can’t wait to read the latest bestseller from your favorite author and don’t mind a short trip to Waterford, place a reserve and come on by!

Visitors and users of this blog are probably already familiar with the ability to subscribe to RSS feeds via a RSS newsreader, such as the one that’s built into IE7 or Safari. We’ve just added a new feed from our online catalog that will keep you updated on new materials as they are added to the collection! From our catalog page, look for the New Stuff link and then click on the “Subscribe to this Feed” link.
