From our friends at the Waterford Historical Museum comes a reminder that they will once again be leading haunted walking tours of the Waterford Rural Cemetery tonight Friday Oct. 30th. Tours will commence at 6:30pm, with the last one departing at 8:45pm. The Cemetery is located on Saratoga Ave/Rt. 32 in Waterford and all tours will line up at the Cemetery office.

Lots of fun pre-trick or treat activities for children will be taking place here at the library in the next few days. It all begins tomorrow evening at 6:30pm when we will be showing “The Scary Godmother” movie. On Friday Oct. 30th, dress in your Halloween costume and join us for story-time at 10am. Also on Friday, beginning at 3pm, we will be making SLIME! Finally on Halloween Day, from 12-3pm, come by for a Halloween Candle Craft program that’s sure to make trick or treating later extra special. All events are free. This Monday Oct. 26, the library will kick off our semi-regular Classic Movie Nite with the horror classic “House of Wax” starring Vincent Price. For a multitude of links to reviews and discourse about the movie, we suggest visiting here. This event is co-sponsored by the Friends of the Library who will be on hand to sign up new members, sell chances to their Wii raffle and offer refreshments. The film begins at 6pm and seating is limited on a first come first seated basis.

The Friends of the Library celebration of National Friends Week will culminate tomorrow with local Girl Scouts reading to children. There will also be Muppet puppets and refreshments. All activities will take place between Noon & 2pm. There is no charge for these activities. Plan to spend part of a likely rainy Saturday here at the library and support the Friends!

On Thursday Oct. 22nd the library welcomes Brian Jones from Nest Egg Financial Planners for a IRA Conversion Workshop. Brian will be discussing the differences between traditional tax-deferred IRAs & Roth IRAs and how upcoming changes to the tax laws may make converting to a Roth IRA very advantageous. The workshop will begin at 6:30pm and there is no charge to attend.

We welcome the Friends of the Waterford Library this week for a series of events designed to spotlight the many contributions they make to our library and encourage new members to join their efforts. The Friends will be holding events at the library throughout the week with refreshments and an opportunity to win a Wii! Fans of the author Nick Hornby have dual reasons to be cheerful at the moment, with the release of his latest novel, “Juliet Naked” AND an acclaimed new film, “An Education”, for which Nick wrote the screenplay. His publisher Penguin Books has more info on both here. And the New York Times had an article on the film.
