Thanksgiving Week Happenings

Monday, November 23rd, 2009

Like the rest of you, we are busy here at the library with before and after Thanksgiving Day plans and news.  We will be open all week for regular hours, EXCEPT, on Thanksgiving Day when we will be closed all day.  So if you need a cookbook, or a DVD to entertain the kids while planning the meal, we’re here to help!

Speaking of movies to entertain kids, on Friday November 27th, we will showing the latest Pixar masterpiece, “UP” here at the library beginning at 1pm. So bring the children and stay yourself to enjoy this terrific movie.

Other items of note, we have once again been designated a drop off location for the Annual Peck Hose Toy Drive. Please consider donating a new unwrapped toy to this very worthy cause.

And it wouldn’t be the holidays without one of our famous basket raffles! Any patron checking out 3 or more items can be entered to win a beautifully decorated basket full of goodies. The drawing takes place on December 18th!

Reject Governor’s Proposed Cuts in Library Aid

The Governor has proposed 10% cut across the board (except for 4.5% for School Aid) to resolve a mid-year state budget deficit of almost $3 billion.  This means an additional $3.3 million cut in Library Aid on top of the three cuts received over the past 18 months that have reduced Library Aid from $102 million in 2007 to $91 million as of April 2009.
If the proposed $3.3 million goes through, it would bring Library Aid down to $88 million a level not seen since 1998.  Libraries have already contributed their fair share towards reducing the state’s budget shortfalls.  Library services are needed now more than ever.  So please contact your state legislator to urge them to reject the proposed cuts.
